Who is Milton H. Erickson?

By Søren Andersen http://kolding-hypnose.dk

Milton H. Erickson was an outstanding hypnotist who had great succes with curing the various problems that people brought to him. He didn't use conventional methods, instead he was very engaged in the clients model of the world. This lead him to treat every client uniquely with the use of permissive techniques and a great deal of metaphors. His methods for conducting hypnosis is widely known as "Ericksonian hypnosis" and he is considered by many to be the father of permissive hypnosis techniques.

In their study of modelling excellence, Richard Bandler and John Grinder eventually was encouraged to study and model the techniques of Milton H. Erickson. This work was published in two volumes called "Patterns of the hypnotic techniques of Milton H. Erickson Vol. 1" and "Patterns of the hypnotic techniques of Milton H. Erickson Vol. 2". These books are considered to be classics in the field of NLP and there is no doubt in my mind that Ericksons exceptional changework is the reason that many NLP practitioners are also taught hypnosis and especially Ericksonian hypnosis.

Milton H. Erickson is therefore a man that has had a great influence in both the field of hypnosis and NLP. If this is the first time you learn about Erickson, I would encourage you to seek out more information in the many books that he himself has written, and the many books that are written about his person.
