What does it feel like to be hypnotized?

The accounts of thousands of people says it all: It feels nothing like you would expect it to feel. This is especially the case, if you misunderstand the nature of hypnosis. Some people think that you will enter into some kind of a void, where you won't be able to hear or feel anything. Other people hold the belief that they won't remember anything about being in hypnosis. This is why a lot of people are amazed when they find out that they are aware of what the hypnotist says, while they're in a trance.

It doesn't mean that nobody will experience amnesia after being hypnotized. I once hypnotized a client who would forget every experience from the trance, and I had to make hypnotic suggestions that he would indeed remember certain things, or else he wouldn't be able to recall anything. This could lead somebody to think that it's dangerous to be hypnotized, but I have found that the subconscious mind is very protective in the hypnotic state.

Personally I have done a lot of self hypnosis, and be using a simple technique for inducing self hypnosis, you can experience hypnosis yourself. You will probably experience a lot of relaxation, but it's not sure that you will "lose consciousness". Personally that happens to me when I use self hypnosis, and I will enter a state where I dream, until I feel that it's time to wake up. Others will just proceed on with the method of self hypnosis, and be equally succesful.
