Can I practice the hypnotic state?

Since Hilgard and stage hypnotists have spread doubt about who can be hypnotized, a number of people are nervous that they consult a hypnotist, and can't go into hypnosis. I have earlier described that anybody with a normal functioning brain can be hypnotized, but as with most things in life, practise makes perfect. You can train your ability to achieve the hypnotic state, just as people practise yoga and meditation. As a sidenote you will probably be very capable of the hypnotic state, if you have practised yoga or meditation.
If you have every been hypnotized several times before, you will probably find that hypnosis becomes easier and the depth is more profound. This is also the reason why I would recommend you to practise the hypnotic state before your appointment with a hypnotist. Betty Ericksons Technique for Self Hypnosis is so easy that anyone can do it, and it works like a charm. By practising self-hypnosis before consulting the hypnotist, you will be able to achieve the hypnotic state much easier and thereby increase the time in which the hypnotist can focus on the problem you had in mind.
So yes, you can practise the hypnotic state! You may need to read my answer to the questions: Can hypnosis be dangerous?, Is self-hypnosis better than consulting a hypnotist? and What does it feel like to be hypnotized? This will rid your mind of any misconceptions about hypnosis, which could make it easier for you to practise hypnosis.
